Time spent indoors accounts for roughly 90% of daily life.

Over 90% of our lives are spent indoors. Indoor environments can influence almost every aspect of our lives, from our moods and energy levels to how well we sleep and how productive we are throughout the day. Modern life has had an increasingly negative impact on our overall well-being, with sedentary behaviour, unhealthy diets, pollution and nature-deprivation leading to health complications and stress.
"A direct line can be drawn between how and where a person spends their time, the quality, amenities, and design of that environment, and individual health outcomes. Spaces that filter and promote clean air, provide ample opportunities for drinking water, encourage moderate physical activity, situate users to views of nature and daylight, and foster a culture of healthy habits, are spaces that can deeply alter a person’s health trajectory. Now, imagine an environment where these qualities are lacking or altogether unavailable". [Fitwel]
By enhancing the quality of our indoor elements, we can transform our built environments into vehicles for health and well-being.
Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer cost nearly RM9 billion productivity losses annually to Malaysian economy.

Numerous studies have shown that there is a correlation between employee health and a company’s bottom line. If the health and fitness level of employees is poor, so will the performance of the entire organisation. A report released on 8 September 2020 from the Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia and the World Health Organization (WHO) reveal that non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer, cost the Malaysian economy upwards of RM 8.91 billion, equivalent to about 0.65% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). The economic cost was estimated from the productivity losses due to absenteeism, presenteeism (workers going to work in poor health conditions) in the workplace and the premature death of working age population in Malaysia.

Increased levels of stress contribute to poor health

Studies show that 90% of employees admitted that their attitude about work is adversely affected by the quality of their workplace environment.
Employers are well aware of the impact health related costs have on their bottom line. Every minute that an employee is unable to work represents a cost to the employer in terms of lost productivity. Research findings demonstrate how the design and maintenance of the built environment can significantly benefit health, productivity, and overall wellbeing and happiness.

Healthy, happy employees increase productivity

Happiness increases productivity because it leads to higher engagement. Healthy, happy employees are also more present. They pay more attention to the needs of customers and they are more alert of the company’s processes and systems. All these factors come together to bring organisations increased productivity and profitability.
